Description

For Quality, Function, Design, and Safety the Rainsaver Rain Barrel is Unmatched!

Water Quality, Conservation, and Stormwater Management
Plants and vegetation love the warmer, natural soft water provided by Mother Nature. Rain water is fresh, untreated water and does not contain chlorinated or chemical additives which are found in in most municipal water supply's water. Plus, plants and vegetation are more receptive to the water temperature from the barrel rather than colder well water which can be bracing to your vegetation. The Spruce Creek Rainsaver enables the user to gather and draw upon their own replenishable water resources and provides run-off control. Even when your Rainsaver rain barrel exceeds the 54 gallon capacity, the overflow located on the back of the barrel diverts excess rainwater. This excess rainwater can easily be diverted to beds, gardens, or lawns for trickle watering by replacing the included six foot overflow hose with a longer length hose. Simply use a standard sump pump hose (inexpensive and available at most hardware stores) and drill or perforate in desired dispersion areas.

RainSaver Design, Durability, and Safety Features
Each RainSaver is constructed of sturdy, durable, food-grade UV protected resin and partially recycled pre-consumer material. Food-grade resin contains no residual odor or toxicity from former use and the dark green color of the rain barrel helps to minimize algae growth. Not only does the green color help blend your barrel into your landscape the color itself is forged throughout the material rather than applied just to the surface so the appearance and color is maintained longer. The full .25-inch barrel wall thickness lends to the barrels 21 pound weight. The one-piece closed design helps alleve the worry of children, pets, or outside animals getting into the rain barrel. The attached screen also helps to mosquito proof your rain barrel. Every Rainsaver comes with a 5 year limited warranty.

Easy Set-Up
To set-up your Rainsaver rain barrel, simply cut the existing downspout about 46 inches from the ground, and add a 60 degree elbow to the end. Now just place the rainbarrel so water will land anywhere within the recessed top. Water will collect on the top surface and funnel into the barrel through the screened intake opening. The downspout does not need to be placed directly over the screens, or directly into the barrel (this enables easier set-up, and filters debris from the downspout water).

In recent years, drought and stormwater issues have risen to new public awareness. Droughts have become frequent, and when rain arrives, excessive runoff overwhelms ditches, streams, rivers and estuaries. Housing and industrial developments now cover vast areas of land, preventing rainfall from soaking into the ground, while a growing population has increased our demand on water resources.

In developing the Spruce Creek Rainsaver, we envisioned water conservation and runoff control as a two-part function of our product. Users are able to collect rain when it is abundant, and use it for watering flowers, gardens, trees and lawns - when it’s not. This puts the “runoff reservoir” right at the downspout, and reduces "public" water demand later in the year. By providing rainwater collection within developed areas, greater stormwater absorption can exist, decreasing the demand on streams and rivers, and creating a more natural environment.

An average roof (1000 sq. ft.) will collect over 650 gallons of water with just 1 inch of rainfall. So even a 1/8 inch rain thunderstorm, could refill an empty rain barrel. Once the Spruce Creek Rainsaver is full, a 1-1/4 inch overflow hose directs excess water to a desired soak area on the homeowners property - where excess water can be utilized (garden, flower beds, trees). By extending the overflow with 50-100 ft. lengths of perforated hose - near gardens, beds or lawns, users can create a trickle system where rainwater is gently dispersed into the ground.

Most homes have several downspouts to capture these available water resourses, and Rainsavers positioned around the home become convenient tools for garden and outdoor uses. While providing great function to the user, The Spruce Creek Rainsaver can also benefit the ecology of our environment.

Pros

  • Weather Resistant

Cons

  • Inefficient
  • Leaks
  • Water Goes Everywhere

Best Uses

  • Watering flowers

Comments about Spruce Creek 54 gal. RainSaver Rain Barrel:

I purchased this rain barrel because it was winter proof. After cutting and ruining our new VERY expensive rain gutters I realized the water just flows off the top into our house foundation. The hole is way too small on top.
Also, the fitting where the over flow tube comes out leaks when it gets full.

Comments about Spruce Creek 54 gal. RainSaver Rain Barrel:

I don't find rain barrels attractive - until now. I didn't want to spend a lot of time emptying the barrel so I bought the biggest one I could handle. It was expensive - but not so bad when compared to the many I looked at first. It appears well-made, sturdy plastic, and ready to use immediately from the packaging. I will not have to hide it in the landscaping. The balsam color is quite pretty.

Comments about Spruce Creek 54 gal. RainSaver Rain Barrel:

All I had to do was put on the spout and after a few tries (I kept cross threading the plastic) everything was ready to go. It works great for rain chains as the rain can land anywhere on the top of the barrel and water goes in the barrel. Also the position of the screen allows debris to fall right off! The company that installed my gutters sells this exact barrel (only this one barrel I might add as its winterized somewhat) for [$]!
