Very nice quality of wood. I used a sealer to weather proof the planter and it looks even nicer. It wasn't easy for one person to assemble by themselves. I recommend using two people to do it. My plants have all sprouted and my transplants are doing well.

This is a very nice planter that is well constructed but is time consuming to put together (I did it alone in about an hour and a half) and has some of the worst assembly directions I have ever seen. I literally spent 15 minutes trying to figure out what the instructions were telling me to do. It comes completely unassembled and none of the boards are marked. It is held together with MANY screws so a power screwdriver is a must.
The wood quality seems pretty good. There were some pieces that had rough edges, though, and I did have one small board that was split and had to be glued together. Once assembled, it does look nice. I finished mine yesterday and applied weather sealant. Waiting to plant.

Fast shipping from Hayneedle.com. This was not as hard to assemble as I thought it may be. All cuts and screw holes were accurate. The main problem I had was assembling the lower shelf. There were no notches in the legs for the long lower braces for the slats. I had to chisel a 1/4" notch in each leg or else the shelf wouldn't have fit as I assume it was intended to fit. It can be done without doing this but according to the videos on the manufaturer website it says to assemle the lower shelf into slots on the legs, which didn't exist. The directions are very minimal and can use a lot of improvement. Overall, it turned our very nice will last a long time.

the not so good:
-not all cuts are accurate
-pre drilled holes non existent in most pieces
missing four 3" wood screws
-liner not quality (not same liner as shown in assembly video on website)
-planter box too much money for the quality received
the good:
-height is near perfect
-design is easy on the eyes
-type of wood is good (not all were quality pieces)
-will do the job as advertised with addistional tweaking
extras:
in addistion to measuring tape and screw driver required for assembly you will also need hand saw and drill.
would we recommend it...yes if you don't find this design elsewhere for better quality or less money.

Its a given the idea of a waist high "raised garden" is wonderful. About my experience...There are better directions in a Lincoln Log set!. I have never seen such inadequate assembly instructions. Quality control of setion pieces need definite work. The top moulding & ends are short, one leg cut out for the bottom tray was not deep enough to fit the side rail. The use of such small nails makes it necessary to add furhter strengthening, When I lifted the box nails pulled out. The amount of screws provided need to be increased. Would I buy it again, I think I would build my own now.

The product is great for herbs and small vegetables. I have mainly peppers and other herbs in mine. Be sure to watch the video on the manufacturers site prior to assembling. Don't even pay attention to the one page instructions. They are useless. Go directly to the cedarcreek site and find the video. It's right on the homepage. Its a nice sturdy product that gets the job done. I'm not staining mine because there is no need to. I want all organic and no chemicals in my crop. My mom saw it and now she's getting one.

Assembly this time was easier and the quality of the materials was fine. The only drawback is that unlike the first box we bought and assembled, which had a two-sided box liner that could easily support the dirt placed in the box, this time we were sent nothing more than two pieces of black felt cloth. I suspect that after the first time I fill the box with soil and water the plants, I'll have soil leaking and dropping through the bottom of the box. If I do, I will be a very unhappy customer.
